Official figures — October 2026. These are the confirmed prices published by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), effective Wednesday, 7 October 2026. Petrol 93 rose 312 c/l, petrol 95 rose 333 c/l, diesel 500ppm rose 284 c/l, diesel 50ppm rose 324 c/l and illuminating paraffin rose 358 c/l. The previous official prices took effect on 2 September 2026.
An API suits software that needs fuel prices automatically; a CSV or spreadsheet suits people who analyse prices by hand. Because South African fuel prices change only once a month, a simple table is enough for most uses.
What is available today: PetrolPrice.co.za publishes official fuel prices as tables on its pages. It does not currently offer a public API or downloadable data files.
Fuel Price API vs CSV overview
| API | CSV or spreadsheet | |
| Best for | Apps, fleet systems and websites that must update themselves | Budgets, reports and one-off analysis |
| How you get data | A program requests it | You open or paste a file |
| Skills needed | A developer | Excel or Google Sheets |
| Update effort | Automatic once built | Manual, once a month |
| Typical cost | Usually a subscription | Usually free or once-off |
Why the monthly cycle matters
Official prices change on the first Wednesday of each month and stay fixed until the next change. A dataset therefore gains only one new row per fuel per zone each month. Updating a spreadsheet by hand takes a minute; an API mainly saves effort when many systems need the figure.
Coverage by fuel type and month
Whichever format you use, check that it covers Petrol 93 and 95, both diesel grades, paraffin, the effective date of each price, and whether figures are inland or coastal.
Update frequency and source methodology
The underlying source is the same in every case: the monthly announcement made for the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources. Any API or file is only as current as its last update against that announcement.
