Official figures — October 2026. These are the confirmed prices published by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), effective Wednesday, 7 October 2026. Petrol 93 rose 312 c/l, petrol 95 rose 333 c/l, diesel 500ppm rose 284 c/l, diesel 50ppm rose 324 c/l and illuminating paraffin rose 358 c/l. The previous official prices took effect on 2 September 2026.
Bulk diesel cost is litres ordered multiplied by the price per litre. At the October 2026 wholesale price, 10,000 litres of diesel 500ppm costs about R319,549 inland and R310,829 at the coast.

Worked example
A farm orders 5,000 litres of diesel 500ppm inland at a quoted 40 cents per litre above the wholesale price. Price per litre: R31.9549 + R0.40 = R32.3549. Cost: 5,000 × R32.3549 = R161,774.50.
How the calculation works
Total cost = volume × price per litre + delivery. Each cent per litre you negotiate is worth R100 on a 10,000-litre order. October’s increase of 284.38 c/l added R28,438 to a 10,000-litre order of diesel 500ppm.

There is no single bulk price. Suppliers quote against the regulated wholesale price: R31.9549 per litre for diesel 500ppm inland from 7 October 2026.
Is bulk diesel cheaper than at the pump?
Usually, because the pump price includes a retail margin that each station sets.

On the first Wednesday of every month. The current prices took effect on 7 October 2026 and the next adjustment is due on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
