There is no daily petrol price in South Africa. The pump price is fixed for a month at a time. What changes daily is the Central Energy Fund’s calculation of what the price would be if it were reset that day.
Daily Fuel Price Data South Africa overview
The Central Energy Fund recalculates the basic fuel price every working day from international product prices and the exchange rate. The gap between that figure and the price currently in force is the daily over- or under-recovery. These daily numbers are indicators of where next month’s price is heading.
What the daily data includes
- The basic fuel price for petrol, diesel and paraffin for the day.
- The over- or under-recovery against the current regulated price.
- The exchange rate used for the conversion.
What it does not include
- A price you can be charged. Only the monthly official price applies at the pump.
- Levy changes, which are announced separately.
- A guarantee about next month. The adjustment uses the average over the whole review period.
