How the regulated price is built

The Department adds fixed levies, regulated margins and a transport charge to the basic fuel price, which reflects the cost of importing refined fuel. For Petrol 95 in Gauteng that comes to R30.25 per litre from 7 October 2026, of which 320 c/l is the retailer’s regulated margin.

Inland vs coastal prices

Regulation is by pricing zone. There are 54 zones; Gauteng pays R30.25 for Petrol 95 and the cheapest coastal zone pays R29.38.

How to use this price information

For petrol there is no point comparing stations in the same area. For diesel there is, because the pump price is not fixed.
