What LRP is

Lead in petrol once protected the valve seats of older engines. When leaded petrol was withdrawn, lead replacement petrol was introduced with a substitute additive so that those engines could keep running. Modern engines do not need it and should use unleaded petrol.

How LRP is priced

The official price schedule lists each grade as “ULP and LRP” with a single price, so there is never a price difference between the two. The levies, margins and transport costs are identical.

Price change from the previous month

On 7 October 2026 the 95 grade rose by R3.33 per litre and the 93 grade by R3.12.

Inland vs coastal prices

As with unleaded petrol, the coastal price is 87 cents per litre below the Gauteng price.

How to use this price information

The official price documents do not say where LRP is stocked, so check with your local station before relying on it. If your vehicle manual specifies unleaded petrol, use unleaded.
