Inland, coastal or local zone context

“Inland” is not one price. South Africa has 54 pricing zones, and each adds its own transport charge. Gauteng’s charge is 91.1 cents per litre. The cheapest inland zone carries 50.3 c/l and the most expensive 189.0 c/l, so inland prices span about R1.39 per litre.

Compare petrol, diesel and other fuels

From 7 October 2026 the inland benchmarks are R30.25 for Petrol 95, R29.88 for Petrol 93, R32.80 for diesel 50ppm and R31.95 for diesel 500ppm (both wholesale).

Why this area differs from other regions

Fuel is priced as if it were imported at the coast and then moved inland. The further a zone is from its supply point, the larger the transport charge. Every other part of the price, including the fuel levy and the margins, is the same across the country.

Travel and fill-up decision guidance

Gauteng is 87 cents per litre dearer than the coast, which is R43.50 on a 50-litre tank. If you are driving to the coast, arrive with a lighter tank; if you are driving inland, fill up before you leave.
