Why this area differs from other regions

South Africa prices fuel as if it were imported by sea. The price at the harbour is the same for everyone; transport inland is charged on top. Tax is not the reason: levies are identical everywhere.

Compare petrol, diesel and other fuels

Diesel carries the same 87.2 c/l difference. LP gas shows a much larger gap: R37.81 per kilogram in Gauteng against R34.56 at the coast.

Travel and fill-up decision guidance

On a 50-litre tank the inland premium is R43.50. It is worth filling up at the coast before driving inland, but not worth a detour.
